Our Waters

Southern central Pennsylvania offers a mix of limestone, limestone-influenced freestone, and freestone streams and rivers. Within minutes of Bedford, Pennsylvania, there are numerous wild trout, musky, northern pike, and smallmouth bass resources.

Yellow Creek

Yellow Creek offers one of the best wild trout fishing experiences in the area. Located 22 minutes from Bedford, Yellow Creek is the premier trout fishing resource in the area. The stream is limestone-influenced and supports incredible insect populations, and still supports significant hatches. It varies from pastoral meandering limestone stretches to forested freestone pocket water, and includes a 1.6-mile fly-fishing, Catch & Release Only section.

Numerous Limestone Streams

Scattered across the area are numerous limestone streams that often meander through farm fields and pastures. Most of these streams host large populations of wild brown trout, though they are often small. These small streams can be challenging for anglers due to the terrain and the extremely spooky nature of the fish. Some of these streams can be fished on the same day as some larger streams in the area.

Raystown Branch Juniata River

Northern Pike
Musky

The Raystown Branch of the Juniata River runs right through Bedford on its way to Raystown Lake from the Allegheny Front just west of Bedford. This river’s water quality has improved immensely over the past several decades and supports a thriving population of warmwater and coolwater sport fish. There are also rare populations of wild brown trout that live throughout the river both year-round and seasonally. The gold standard in this river is the musky and pike found throughout, with Smallmouth Bass in large numbers and sizes closer to Raystown Lake.

Western Maryland

(NOTE: NOT CURRENTLY OFFERING GUIDE SERVICES IN MARYLAND)

Western Maryland is blessed with some incredible wild trout waters. Below is a list of some of the waters we fish throughout the year. Note that this isn’t a complete list of the waters we fish. If you have something in mind, please reach out to us to schedule your trip! Better stream descriptions will be added at a later date.

Western Maryland Brook Trout

Upper Savage River Tributary

The Upper Savage River in western Maryland is arguably one of the best wild native brook trout preserves on the east coast outside of Maine. There are over 100 miles of connected tributaries throughout the Savage State Forest, and we’ve fished just about every mile of them. This is a great option if you want to camp in a beautiful remote area and fish for brook trout. All guided fishing in the Upper Savage River is walk-in wade fishing only.

Savage River Tailwater – Wild Trout

Savage River Tailwater Section

The Savage River Tailwater section contains both trophy trout water, and fly fishing only water. There are wild brown, brook, and rainbow trout in the lower Savage River. The wild brown trout in the Savage River Tailwater are unique and incredibly colorful fish. They’re also some of the most educated and highly pressured fish in the region. The Savage River Tailwater section is walk-in wade fishing only.

North Branch of the Potomac (Upper River) – Wild Trout

North Branch of the Potomac

We offer half or full day walk-in wade fishing trips or half or full day float trips on the upper North Branch of the Potomac River. This river is as close to a western tailwater as you can get!

North Branch of the Potomac (Lower River) – Smallmouth, Pike

North Branch of the Potomac

The lower North Branch of the Potomac river is remote and has C&R regs for smallmouth. The lower river is float trip only and must be a full day float.
